The Krantivrrta Yantra was under scrutiny today. It is a unfinished instrument but i am hopping that we can see his shadow better than with the Nadivalaya whose shadow was too thin to get caught on camera.
Once again i've been privileged today, i had access to the Sasthamsa Yantra which is usually closed, even the security man working here for years never saw it. This is a very special instrument located in the wings of the Samrat Yantra, the great sundial. It is a closed room with two pinholes placed 9m above the ground. At 12.00 and for only 5 minutes, the image of the sun is projected on two parallel scales of 8m. There it is possible to calculate the declination of the sun and, most importantly his diameter. If you put a white piece of paper you can even see the black spots of the sun. The view is absolutely stunning and i am very grateful to have been allowed to live this unique experience.
Another article in another newspaper the Dainik Navajyoti.
Moon above the small samrat.
